Bulldog is a much-loved and innovative men’s skincare brand with a focus on keeping things simple and creating high-quality products that are good for your skin and the planet. The way that it has managed to rapidly scale up is also a genuine business success story.

The now multi-award-winning brand first came to us back in 2015. Its products had only hit the shelves in 2007 and it had already started to see massive growth – but needed some help to unlock this immense potential.

Challenges

Bulldog had experienced an incredible, rapid period of growth but the team knew that their existing business systems couldn’t always keep up with this pace. They decided they needed a complete review of their systems to make sure they’d be able to continue with this level of success and replicate it in other countries.

There were a few things that were holding them back from unlocking this next level of potential. Every month, reconciling stock and financials was far more complex and time-consuming than it needed to be. On top of this, data entry was often duplicated and there were major barriers to efficiency and general business management.

Requirements

Bulldog needed to switch over to a modern enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution that was specifically designed for the needs of a growing SME.

The team needed real-time reporting to give them up-to-date information on exactly what’s going on in their business to help everything run more efficiently.

Another key requirement was having complete material requirements planning (MRP) for all of the different parts and ingredients for their products – as well as being able to easily integrate this with their electronic data interchange (EDI).

One key goal that Bulldog was being held back on was international expansion. It needed a system that could support this and allow it to do accounting in multiple localisations worldwide.

Our consultants met up with the Bulldog team to discuss their needs and work out what would work best for their business.

After looking at a few different solutions, we landed on SAP Business One as the best fit for them. At first, there were some concerns from co-founder Simon Duffy that its adoption could be “complex and drawn out.” But, he added, “after engaging with Thinc it soon became apparent that this didn’t have to be the case.”

We presented clear and uncomplicated ideas for how best to implement it – as well as some tight project timescales to get the job done as quickly as possible and minimise any disruption.
