Many organisations are undertaking the Cyber Essentials certification to demonstrate to their customers that they take security seriously. Cyber Essentials also assists in securing data assets for GDPR compliance as well as achieving business insurance terms of cover.

Securing your internet connection
By using a firewalls you are available to secure your internet connection. A firewall acts as a buffer zone so that incoming traffic can be analysed and malicious content can blocked from your network.
Configuring your devices and software securely
By managing the default settings and passwords on your devices, you can make them much more protected against cyber attacks. You can also use features such as 2FA for important accounts such as banking.
Managing user access control
Control who has access to various parts of your system based upon their user requirements. By only giving users access to what they need to do their job, you minimise the damage that could be done if an account is misused or stolen.
Protecting yourself against viruses and malware
There are various approaches to defend against viruses and malware. Anti-malware measures that are usually included free with operating systems, whitelisting and sandboxing to name a few.
Keeping your software and patches up to date
Regular updates are released to keep your operating system protected against known bugs and vulnerabilities. This is usually a quick process and is one of the most important things that you can do to keep your systems secure.
